Our History
South Plantation High School’s Environmental Science and Everglades Restoration Magnet Program has been serving students across Broward County since 2002. The program aims to bring students from across the county to study the many different branches of science. This competitive program receives more qualified applicants than seats available. Students are then chosen through a random selection process. As a part of the program, students learn environmental stewardship and Everglades preservation through service learning, field trips, and rigorous science classes. After the completion of the 4-year program, students graduate with a certificate of achievement, a green cord, and a gold medallion recognizing a successful research symposium project.
Fans of the Everglades Restoration (FERM) was formed in 2011 as a not-for-profit 501(3)(c) to raise funds through tax-deductible donations and sponsorships in support of program expenses not covered by the school's budget.
