The Environmental Science and Everglades Restoration program began in 2021 and has been named a Magnet school of Excellence by Magnet Schools of America multiple times since then. After completion of the 4-year program, students graduate with a certificate of achievement, a green cord and a gold medallion recognizing a successful research symposium project. Beyond Academics

Our nature-loving students have much success inside and outside of the classroom. Through challenging courses, grade-level field trips and community service projects, the program emphasizes science, research, writing and communications and also offers:

FERM organizes volunteer beautification committees to bring together students, faculty, parents, and community members to improve school and community green spaces and gardens.

Magnet parents/supporters of the program are encouraged to join FERM and participate in fundraising, recruitment, ceremonial events and chaperoning field trips .
Parents help as they volunteer to chaperone field tips and cleanups making each year a great year!

Donations and sponsorships from our community businesses and private foundations help offset costs of supplies, speakers and field trips.
YEA! Youth Environmental Alliance professionals work with teachers expanding the program.
